Schinoussa is a small island with numerous beaches. In fact, it has 18 beaches facing in all directions. This means that you can always find a wind-protected cove to swim and relax under the sun or shade.

And the best thing? All Schinoussa beaches are just a 3 to 10-minute drive from Chora and Messaria, the only two villages on the island.

But even if you prefer walking, you can reach your favorite beach within 10 to 40 minutes. You can also do the round of the island on foot in one day!

Psili Ammos Beach

Psili Ammos is located on the north side of the island, near Messaria. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Schinoussa, with crystal clear waters and tall trees for shade.

Here, you will witness a unique landscape with sand dunes spreading from the top of the hill all the way down to the beach. When the winds are low, it’s a truly magical place to swim.

Tsigouri Beach

This is the most popular beach in Schinoussa and an idyllic place to swim. Long and sandy, it has clear blue waters and plenty of shade under the trees lining the coast.

Tsigouri Beach is located just 10 minutes on foot from Chora and from Hotel Iliovasilema.

Livadi Beach

Located 1200m from Chora, Livadi is an alluring 200-meter-long beach with fine sand and clear blue waters.

Here, you can enjoy a whole day by the sea under the shade of tall tamarisk trees or at the adjacent restaurant-café.

To get to Livadi Beach on foot, follow an easy 20-minute trail that starts from Chora, the island’s capital.

Almyros Beach

Almyros is a quiet, relatively long beach with fine sand and shallow, turquoise waters on the northeast side of the island. Here, you’ll find some tamarisk trees for shade.

On windy days, this beach is great for surfing, but when the weather is calm, it is the perfect place for families with children.

Kampos Beach

A pretty little cove embracing a small beach with fine pebbles and lovely, calm waters – set at Alygaria Bay (or Ormos Alygaria).

The rocks surrounding the beach shelter it from the north summer winds. If you are looking for a quiet swim, Kampos is an excellent place to spend tranquil hours by the sea.

Lioliou Beach

Located on the north coast of the island, Lioliou is a beautiful sandy beach with a view of Keros Island. Many travelers and locals consider it the most picturesque beach of Schinoussa!

Its shallow, turquoise waters make it an ideal beach for families with children. Plus, there are plenty of tamarisk trees for shade and a nearby restaurant.

Gagavi Beach

Located next to Kampos, the second beach at Ormos Alygaria is Gagavi - a very sweet beach with lucid waters.

You can lay your towel under small beach-side caves and stay cool on hot summer days. The serenity of the place will make you want to visit it again and again.

Piso Ammos Beach

Pisso Ammos, also known as Mersini, is the central beach next to the port. The tamarisk trees you see here were planted by the locals years ago.

It’s an ideal place to have a drink or meal at its seaside restaurant and enjoy a last dive before taking the return ferry.

Gerolimnionas Beach

A small but impressive beach in the west of Schinoussa, with green-blue waters and white sand. Nestled in a deep cove, it is surrounded by wild, Cycladic nature, and it is well-protected from the ‘meltemi’ winds. Just make sure you have an umbrella with you.

To get to Gerolimnionas, you need to drive until the road’s end and then continue on foot. Swimming at Gerolimnionas is truly a rewarding experience!

Fountana Beach

Located just 1,5km (20-minute walk) from Iliovasilema Hotel, Fountana is a small beach on the east side of Schinoussa that looks out to Keros and Kato Koufonissi islands.

Its amazing waters, natural surroundings, and a small Venetian castle located nearby create an idyllic landscape. The bay of Fountana has two small, picturesque beaches to explore and one tree for shade! It’s better to come here on windless days.

Fykio Beach

Another miniature beach on the north side of the island. Its soft, white sand, deep turquoise waters, and rocky surroundings compose a pure Aegean scenery where time seems to have stopped.

Its name, Fykio, comes from the Greek word for Algae, as quite a bit of seaweed is often pushed out onto its shore. This beach is connected to Psili Ammos via a 15-minute footpath.

Bazeos Beach

A quiet beach about 80m long, separated from the well-known beach of Lioliou by a rocky protrusion. It has deep waters, pebbled sand, and many nearby beaches to explore.

If you are into snorkeling, this is a great spot to get a glimpse of Schinoussa's underwater treasures.

Pori Beach

A small and wild beach "hidden" inside a cave north of Bazeos Bay. It’s best to come here early in the day to find a spot to put your towel and also find some shade!

You can only access Pori on foot, either from Almyros Beach (150m) or from Bazeos Beach (800m). Once you arrive, you’ll be enchanted by the quietness and beauty of the place, adding to a unique experience.

Fidou Beach

This beach is located on the uninhabited island of Fidoussa, just off the coast of Schinoussa, separated by a very narrow sea passage. It is only accessed by boat.

The setting here is captivating. You can spend the whole day swimming in its blue-green waters or admiring its underwater beauties with your snorkel mask. Don't forget to bring enough water, food, and -of course- a beach umbrella.

Litter Free Beaches

Every year, the beaches of Schinoussa are cleaned by volunteers; but visitors also do their best to keep them litter-free.

Umbrella Required

In July and August, it is a good idea to always carry an umbrella with you, as it may get crowded under the beach-side trees.
